Multiple Teams · Lions Soccer, Field Hockey and Volleyball Teams Prepare for 2020 OHSAA State Tournaments


BEXLEY, Ohio – The Ohio High School Athletics Association (OHSAA) released 2020 Sectional, District and State tournament brackets and Bexley’s boys and girls soccer, field hockey and volleyball team all received bids to play in the postseason. The Lions soccer and field hockey teams will play host in their matchups while the volleyball team will have a first round away game.

Boys Soccer

The Lions boys soccer team received the 5-seed in the Division II, Central 1 Sectional/District playoffs and are set to matchup against 9-seeded Bishop Hartley at Bexley’s Carlton Smith Stadium on Wednesday, Oct. 21 at 7 p.m. The winner of the Lions-Knights matchup will go on to play the winner of 4-seeded Johnstown High School vs. 8-seeded London High School. The second-round matchup will be played at the higher seed’s home stadium on Tuesday, Oct. 27 at 7 p.m.

Per OHSAA’s website, soccer tournament tickets will only be available for player’s family members and the Bexley Athletic Department will send out a code to purchase tickets five days prior to the game.

Girls Soccer

The Lions girls soccer team received the 3-seed in the Division II, Central 2 Sectional/District playoffs and are set to matchup against 12-seeded Hamilton Township at Bexley’s Carlton Smith Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 24 at 3 p.m. The winner of the Lions-Rangers matchup will go on to play the winner of 6-seeded Worthington Christian High School vs. 13-seeded London High School. If the girls pull off a win in the first round, their second-round matchup will be played at home on Wednesday, Oct. 28 at 7 p.m.

Field Hockey

The Lions field hockey team received the 11-seed in the Division I District Tournament and will host the 12-seed Lancaster Gales at Carlton Smith Stadium on Tuesday, Oct. 20 at 5:30 p.m. The winner of the Lions-Gales matchup will advance to the second-round and play the winner of 2-seed Thomas Worthington and 17-seed Olentangy Berlin. That match will be hosted by the better seeded team.

Volleyball

The Lions volleyball team received the 9-seed in the Division II, Central 1 Sectional/District playoffs and are set to play at 3-seeded Bishop Hartley on Wednesday, Oct. 21 at 6 p.m. The winner of the Lions-Knights match will go on to play the winner of 7-seeded Licking Valley High School vs. 8-seeded London High School. If the girls win in the first round, their second-round matchup will be played away on Wednesday, Oct. 28 at 6 p.m.
