The Bexley Lions Girls and Boys Cross Country teams both ran in the Division II Regional Meet this past Saturday at Pickerington North High School. The Lady Lions took home 3rd place and the Boys finished 4th overall. Both teams advance to the State Meet this upcoming Saturday.
The Girls scored 93 points which only trailed Granville (60 points), and Minerva (83 points). Also qualifying for the state meet were Jon Alder (130 points), Buckeye Valley (174 points), Athens (239 points), and Fredericktown (260 points).
The Girls were led by Claire MacDonald who finished in 6th place with a time of 19:37. Maria Steinke was not far behind as she crossed the finish line in 19:56 which placed her 16th overall. Coming through in a large pack was Karleigh Place and Hannah Hayden who finished 28th and 32nd respectively. Rounding out the top 5 was Alexandra Grieshop in 45th place with a time of 21:06. Also running for the Lions were Rylee Barno (57th place), and Lily Keller (81st place).
The Boys team scored 177 points which only trailed Unioto (75 points), Heath (122 points), and River View (144 points). Also qualifying for the State Meet finishing behind the Lions were McD. Northwest (189 points), Watterson (205 points), and Sheridan (232 points).
The Lions top 5 runners ran in a pack throughout the entirety of the race and only 14 seconds separated the 5 of them as they crossed the finish line. Rob Donahey finished 38th with a time of 17:33, Spencer Stevenson 43rd in 17:36, Solomon McDow 44th in 17:37, John Laing 47th in 17:42, and Miller MacDonald finishing in 50th place with a time of 17:47. Also running for the Lions were Elliot Roe (57th place), and Athanasius Young (82nd place).
The State Meet will take place on Saturday, November 7th at Fortress Obetz Field. The Boys race will start at 12:00pm and the Girls race will take place at 1:00pm.
